In the field of industrial fluid transfer, heavy oil and fuel oil present unique challenges due to their high viscosity, poor flow characteristics, and the need for transfer at high temperatures, which place higher demands on the pump’s suction capacity, pressure stability, operational performance, and sealing capabilities. When selecting a ZYB gear pump for heavy oil applications, one must not only consider flow rate and pressure but also take into account the actual viscosity of the heavy oil, specific transfer requirements, suction conditions, and operating duration to ensure proper selection.
Since the viscosity of heavy oil changes significantly with temperature, flow resistance increases at lower temperatures, requiring the pump to exert greater torque. In contrast, an appropriate temperature reduces the viscosity of heavy oil, allowing it to enter the pump chamber more easily while also reducing flow resistance in the suction line. When selecting equipment, it is therefore necessary to provide Shenghui Pump Industry or other manufacturers with the name of the heavy oil, its normal operating temperature, and corresponding viscosity, rather than selecting a model based solely on the oil’s properties at room temperature. When the suction line is too long or the pipe diameter is too small, it increases pressure loss on the suction side, making it difficult for the fluid to enter the pump chamber in a timely manner. This can lead to problems such as increased noise, reduced flow rate, vibration, and even cavitation. Hence, for heavy oil delivery systems, the suction line must be adjusted based on the actual viscosity and flow rate of the fluid.
ZYB gear oil pumps, utilized for long-term continuous operation in heavy oil transfer applications, rely on rotating gears to continuously deliver the medium, delivering efficient and stable performance with heavy oil, fuel oil, and other oils with good lubricity. During heavy oil transfer, however, close attention must be paid to the equipment’s rotational speed and motor specifications. If the motor and pump assembly are selected based on high-speed operation specifications intended for low-viscosity oils, problems such as difficult startup, motor overload, pump overheating, and even equipment failure may occur. Hence, proper equipment selection requires a comprehensive evaluation of factors including discharge pressure, fluid viscosity, target flow rate, and operating temperature to determine the appropriate pump type, rotational speed, and motor.
In boiler fuel oil systems, heavy fuel oil power generation systems, and combustion fuel supply systems, if the materials of the seals that come into contact with the medium are improperly selected, leaks may occur after prolonged operation, affecting equipment safety and the on-site environment. To prevent this, when purchasing equipment, it is essential to confirm the temperature and pressure of the medium in advance and select appropriate seals and materials based on actual operating conditions. If the heavy oil medium contains sediment, mechanical impurities, or large solid particles, suitable filtration devices must be installed, and filters must be inspected regularly to prevent a sudden increase in suction resistance due to clogging, resulting in reduced equipment delivery efficiency.
It is important to note that during normal operation, heated heavy oil has good flow properties, but after the equipment is shut down, the oil temperature in the pipes and pump housing gradually decreases, causing the viscosity to increase, which may result in the actual load during the next startup exceeding that of normal operating conditions. This is why, for heavy oil systems that operate intermittently, measures such as pipe tracing, pump housing insulation, and preheating before startup must be considered to ensure the medium reaches a suitable state for conveyance before starting the equipment.
Thanks to their positive displacement delivery principle, strong adaptability to various media, and structural design tailored for fuel oil applications, ZYB heavy oil pumps deliver excellent performance in scenarios such as heavy oil transfer, fuel oil pressurization, boiler fuel supply, and industrial combustion systems. When selecting equipment, it is important to consider the medium’s viscosity, temperature, pressure, suction conditions, and specific operating conditions to ensure accurate selection and minimize long-term maintenance costs.
